Aurecon has appointed a new global managing director to helm its energy and resources business.

New MD Alex Wonhas has previously worked as executive director of CSIRO’s environment, energy and resources sector, where he oversaw research, development and demonstration activities.

These included the commercialisation of several fossil, renewable and demand management energy technologies.

Later on in the energy sector, Dr Wonhas helped expand the Gas Industry Social and Environmental Research Alliance nationally, bringing in AGL, Origin and Santos as new partners.

Dr Wonhas appears to be focused on building Aurecon’s advisory practice.

“Aurecon recognises the role it can play in driving change in the energy, resources and manufacturing sectors, and will be at the forefront of driving that change,” Dr Wonhas said.

“I am excited by the opportunity we have to shape the future of our industries, help our clients become future ready by navigating disruption and maximise the total value of their assets and businesses.”

Aurecon CEO Giam Swiegers said the company invested in leaders who had the style, global mindset and courage to counter almost constant disruption.

“Experts such as Dr Wonhas contribute subject matter expertise and advisory capability, which plays an important role in developing our global teams to meet clients’ most significant and changing challenges,” Swiegers said.
