The Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Australia (SCLAA) has received a grant of $743,310 from the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism to develop a system for saving energy in the transport and logistics sector.

An extremely high energy sector, the transport and logistics world has a number of opportunities to cut down on energy expenditure, saving costs and the environment. The SCLAA has flagged a reduction in the usage of electricity, all types of fuels and refrigerants as well as optimisation of transport, loads, materials handling, cold chain logistics, scheduling and other efficiencies as starting measures to improve standards.

David Rogers, SCLAA Chairman said many small to medium operators do not have the time and skills to track down energy inefficiencies, which is where the newly-funded program will help. The Energy Efficiency Solutions project will equip SCLAA’s members, contacts and over 409,000 small and medium-sized enterprises that warehouse, distribute or transport goods, with targeted tools, resources and training tailored specifically to improve their energy efficiency. The program will be delivered at 30 locations in every State and Territory across Australia and all components will be available online.

Information on all seven phases of the program’s rollout is available from the SCLAA site.
