Engineering contracting firm Theiss has announced it has been awarded two new contracts, valued at approxminately $220 million, with the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA).

The contracts will see Theiss completed construction works on the Caval Ridge Mine Project in the Bowen Basin in central Queensland.

The Thiess contracts are for the construction of a coal preparation plant (CPP), part of the coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP), for approximately $125 million and a rail loop and holding roads for approximately $95 million.

“We’re already delivering major site preparation and drainage works at Caval Ridge. The addition of the CPP and rail facilities further showcases our offering to clients,” Managing Director Bruce Munro said.

The CPP contract will be delivered by Thiess’ specialist industrial projects team which has a 20-year history building robust coal handling and preparation plants and draws on world-leading construction solutions to deliver a second-to-none coal processing capability.
