Industry operators can get a look at the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) new access management system (AMS).

The national body for the industry has put up videos and other online materials so that drivers and owners can familiarise themselves with the new “one-stop-shop for access applications” as well as the new national rule book for heavy vehicles.

NHVR CEO Richard Hancock says the group wants to make sure all parties are up to speed when the new laws take place

“On 10 February 2014, the NHVR is launching Australia's first cross-border, cross-agency system for managing heavy vehicle access to the nation's road network and we want industry to see what's coming down the line,” haycock said.

"We've put draft access forms on our website so operators know how to fill them out and what information is needed.

"We’re on the road talking to industry at our regional forums so operators can meet us and have their questions answered face-to-face.

"Now, we're ready to give industry a preview of the new access management system that will mean less time, money and paperwork for busy operators trying to get a vehicle on the right roads.”

Key features of the NHVR’s online services are; a journey planner, digital signatures to cut down on paper use, unique login details and pre-filled forms for all operators, electronic tracking and documentation for records and enhanced tracking facilities too.

“In the video, I make a point of thanking all our government and industry partners: the Commonwealth Government, state and territory road authorities; the many national and state industry associations; as well as individual drivers and operators,” Hancock said.

“You'll also get a glimpse of the hardworking NHVR staff who are behind the scenes making sure our processes and systems will work smoothly on 10 February.

“We are very excited about what's ahead for Australia's heavy vehicle industry and want operators to see the next generation in access management.”
