About the Opportunity

The National Environment team is seeking an experienced, energetic and pro-active Environmental Officer who is ready to join the team.

With a focus on environmental compliance and environmental management systems (ISO 14001) the role will evolve and also enable you to become familiar with different aspects of the Australian operations.

Based in Scoresby and reporting to the National Environment Manager, you will be accountable for ensuring compliance to site specific environmental legal requirements along with corporate policies and procedures.

The role requires a hands on approach and will include implementing and maintaining environmental standards and compliance programs, establishing, fostering and managing environmental regulatory engagement.

As a key member of the National Environment team you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring full compliance to site EPA licences and trade waste agreements including annual reporting to state and territory environmental regulators
  • Developing environmental compliance training materials
  • Ensure key environmental inspections, monitoring and management plans are completed in full and on time
  • Assist with key environmental, energy and other key sustainability data collection in preparation for annual regulatory and corporate reporting requirements
  • Assist with development and implementation of Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) to ensure consistency with implementation strategy
  • Drive a risk based approach to environmental compliance, completing regular site risk assessments and assist maintaining the group risk register
  • Support sites in the identification and escalation of environmental risk
  • Site environmental licence annual reporting to state and territory environmental regulators
  • Assist with waste management initiatives and assist with waste contractor audits
  • Technical support to sites in response to environmental incidents including root cause analysis

About You

  • You will have experience with site environmental compliance and managing EPA licences and permits, preferably in Victoria
  • Practical experience and understanding of environmental compliance management principles, ideally in the dairy or FMCG industry
  • Self-motivation to work autonomously as part of a national and interdisciplinary team environment
  • Familiar with national, state and territories regulatory framework 
  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications in a science or engineering or proven experience in a similar role in the FMCG and/or dairy sector
  • Ability to travel regularly between metropolitan and regional sites, as well as interstate sites from time to time
