The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies comprises a faculty administration unit and five schools: School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, School of Electrical and Information Engineering, School of Information Technologies.

This exciting role forms an essential part of the Schools daily operation by providing technical support to the schools teaching and research activities. The position holder will be called upon to use his technical skills gained from being an experienced Fitter and Machinist / Fabricator. The successful candidate is expected to have a sound mechanical background, good machining and fabrication skills and a common sense approach to work health and safety principles.


Reporting to the Workshop and Laboratory Manager you will:

  • provide technical and workshop support and assistance to researchers, students and other technical staff
  • maintain the laboratory workplace ensuring that the research, learning and teaching requirements of the work area are suitably met
  • ensure WHS matters requiring attention are addressed appropriately
  • be confident with working at height / with heights


Position requirements include:

  • relevant training - Fitting and Machining trade certificate with experience in jobbing workshops
  • sound working knowledge and awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within the laboratory environment
  • ability to work with / fabricate large components using fabrication and welding skills.

 
This position is subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.
