  Manager – Geographic Information Systems (GIS) | Coal Seam Gas Industry

Arrow Energy is an integrated coal seam gas (CSG) company that explores and develops gas fields, produces and sells CSG and generates electricity. 


Arrow produces CSG from fields in the Surat Basin in southern Queensland and the Bowen Basin in central Queensland. We have been safely and sustainably developing CSG since 2000 and supplying it commercially since 2004. 

We own one of Queensland's largest power stations, Braemar 2 near Dalby, and we have interests in two others, giving us enough generation capacity to power around 800,000 homes. On 1 December 2017, Arrow agreed one of the largest gas supply deals on Australia’s east coast, to bring to market our significant gas reserves in the Surat Basin. Planning is under way for a major project expected to commence construction in 2019.

Arrow is owned by a joint venture company between Shell and PetroChina. At Arrow, safety is our highest priority, and our values – lead, own, solve, integrate and respect – underpin everything we do. To meet our growing demands, we are looking for an experienced GIS Manager to join our team.

Reporting to the General Manager Commercial Projects & Water, you will be accountable for providing technical direction to GIS data and GIS management and the required integration into Arrow IT systems or Arrow workflow. You will be the geo-information and geo-data integration lead for Arrow, responsible for implementing policies and procedures to deliver the required data quality and integrity so that there is one source of truth for geospatial information.

In addition you will:
  • Adopt standard safe work practices and procedures in accordance with Arrow’s safety policies;
  • Define and shape Arrow geo-information and geo data strategy and resulting capability roadmap;
  • Lead Arrow geo-information and data activities so that they comply with the suitable standards and guidelines that result from this strategy;
  • As Technical Authority 2 (TA2) carry out quality control work specified in the DCAF (as an relevant technical authority quality check and sign-off discipline input into a deliverable or, and as an ATA accountable for the overall quality and sign-off of a deliverable);
  • Engage relevant external experts for consultation on areas outside own expertise in geomatics function;
  • Design and implement assurance activities that test system integrity and test application of standards;
  • Maintain close links with colleagues across Data Management and ICT for ongoing support of the integrated GIS infrastructure;
  • Take a lead role in the business case and design of new GIS analysis methodologies, applications and strategies required for the business;
  • Identify and manage data integration needs ensuring data is seamlessly maintained and current between Arrow and third party applications and databases and capabilities;
  • Ensure all data imported to a GIS Server environment has appropriate quality assurance and quality control, including mandatory metadata, standards applied;
  • Coordinate and manage the integration of data from multiple internal departments and consultants;
  • Produce suitable maps and provide suitable general GIS services to a range of disciplines and departments;
To be successful in the role, you will: 
  • Hold a BSc (or higher) degree in geomatics/data related subject.
  • Preferably have membership of relevant industry institution.
  • Have proven success in applying GIS and data analysis and consultancy with wide exposure to corporate GIS data and significant exposure to, and knowledge of, the major data assets and information flows of the organisation.
  • Preferably have worked within the coal seam gas or resources sector.
  • Have proven stakeholder management skills and persuasive in communicating at all levels.
  • Have demonstrated expertise in the database technology, current developments, the most commonly available products and their application within a technical or business environment.
  • Have systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving with demonstrable verbal and written communications skills.
