Senior Mechanical Engineer – Contract Role| Coal Seam Gas Industry

Arrow Energy is an integrated coal seam gas (CSG) company that explores and develops gas fields, produces and sells CSG and generates electricity.

Arrow produces CSG from fields in the Surat Basin in southern Queensland and the Bowen Basin in central Queensland. We have been safely and sustainably developing CSG since 2000 and supplying it commercially since 2004.

We own one of Queensland's largest power stations, Braemar 2 near Dalby, and we have interests in two others, giving us enough generation capacity to power around 800,000 homes. Arrow is owned by a joint venture company between Shell and PetroChina.

Reporting to the Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will assist Project Managers and Operations staff to achieve effective delivery of capital projects within agreed cost and schedule constraints, by providing technical support services to the highest standard and whilst ensuring specified regulatory compliances.

In addition you will:
  • Ensure personal safety at work by adopting standard safe work practices and procedures in accordance with Arrow’s safety policies;
  • Develop and maintain specifications relating to mechanical and piping engineering.
  • Develop of concept designs and design basis documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of documents defining the owner’s technical requirements for projects.
  • Undertake and/or supervise the preparation of detailed design documents including calculations, drawings, data sheets, risk assessments and specifications for piping systems, vessels, gas compressors, pumps, valves, gas transmission pipelines and other mechanical equipment.
  • Peer review for the design of mechanical process or systems including instruments, controls, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems and piping.
  • Supervise and liaise with engineering consultants and vendors during Concept Selection, FEED and detailed design, for Projects and Operations support, ensuring that the owner’s deliverables and quality requirements are achieved on cost and time.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Management of Change and Technical Query systems and Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Assist with the development of plant and equipment maintenance strategies and procedures.
To be successful in the role, you will have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Eligibility for registration with Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland (RPEQ)
  • Proven extensive experience in oil/gas or related process industry, with significant experience in mechanical (static pressure equipment and tanks) and piping engineering roles
  • Technical knowledge of mechanical static and rotating equipment with strong emphasis on gas processing, power generation and water treatment facilities
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of piping and instrument diagrams, design basis manuals, sizing and specification of equipment such as industrial compressors, dehydrators, power generators, heat exchanges, pumps and separators, water treatment plants and waste heat recovery systems
  • Experience in the development of piping layouts, piping engineering deliverables and documents, including piping and valve material specifications, bills of materials, indices of piping items and lines, as well as piping stress/flexibility analysis and calculations
  • Experience in interaction with Commissioning and Operations personnel
  • Sound knowledge in equipment specifications API 618, API 619, API 11P (ISO 13631) and API 610 in relation to packaging of such equipment and the static equipment and piping related
