Job Description

As Building Inspector you will represent the Office of Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS) and The City of Stonnington in the inspection of buildings and building works where a permit has been granted.

  • Promote an understanding of relevant legislative requirements to practitioners and members of the public and provide professional recommendations
  • Carry out proactive inspections of building risks and dangers and non-compliance in accordance with Council work plans and policies by utilising engineering principles, precedent, and experience.
  • Respond to complaints and concerns by members of the public, governance and business units
  • Administer the follow up of building permits and approvals that are due to lapse or have lapsed, maintaining comprehensive and accurate records of inspections.

Desired Skills and Experience

To be suitable for this role you will have:

  • Practised knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations including associated Codes of Practice, Australian Standards, Local Laws, Government and Council Policies.
  • Proven experience in exercising building control functions, including enforcement processes
  • Ability to work in a team environment and positively contribute to the team.
  • Capacity to work autonomously, setting priorities and delivering desired outcomes
  • Demonstrated high level skills in communication and problem solving and ability to discuss regulatory requirements clearly to achieve successful resolution.
