Our client is seeking to engage an EL1 Assistant Director - Capital Works.

Location: Open to MULTIPLE locations (Canberra ACT, Sydney NSW, Adelaide SA, Melbourne VIC, Brisbane QLD)
Contract Length: 6 months with option to extend 1 X 6 months
Eligibility/Security Requirement: Applicants must be Australian Citizens

Role Overview:

The Assistant Director National Capital Works is responsible for delivering the department’s National Capital Works program and related contract management for various projects in Department’s national portfolio. The Department’s portfolio includes Office Space, Laboratories, Quarantine Facilities, Air and Sea Ports, and Detector Dog Facilities. The role would suit someone with experience in capital works project management, design briefing and review, physical security requirements and compliance, contract management and reporting, procurement, stakeholder engagement and governance skills.

Key duties/tasks:

  • Management of capital works projects to time, budget, and stakeholder requirements.
  • Program management overseeing delivery of multiple projects through the delivery life cycle, including funding bids, forecasting, progress and financial tracking and reporting.
  • Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to gather and review stakeholder requirements, engagement and coordination of project risk assessments and mitigations.
  • Application of the department’s protective security requirements and implementation throughout each project phase.
  • Provide strategic advice and assistance to the Senior Executives and stakeholders.
  • Communicate and make balanced decisions using professional judgement, evaluating available information, factoring in risks and being sensitive to the context.
  • Maintain and ensure ongoing project governance and communication.
  • Contribute to the identification, development, and implementation of opportunities to improve business management practices and processes.
  • Provide leadership to Property and Security Branch staff, including coaching staff through ambiguity and developing team capability.

Key skills/personal attributes:

Ability to -

  • Develop and manage Capital Governance framework, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Deliver property projects in line with the department’s processes and procedures.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders (oral, written, interpersonal and negotiation).
  • Apply the departments’ protective security requirements and manage implementation throughout each project phase.
  • Operate under broad direction, exercise a degree of independence, and perform a leadership role.
  • Work positively and collaboratively, with a focus on customer service and maintaining open lines of communication.
  • Work in a flexible and agile manner.
  • Work within established legislative and policy frameworks.
  • Employ well-developed interpersonal skills to manage and resolve situations requiring sensitivity to individual and/or workgroup concerns.
