Job description:

The Safety Coordinator will work within the Infrastructure Safety Team. Reporting to the Safety Manager. This position will support a 24 hour 7 day a week business and will be responsible for providing professional and strategic advice in the areas of Occupational Health & Safety and Rail Safety

Our Safety Coordinators ensure compliance with relevant legislation, occupation specific improvement initiatives, and provide coaching and mentoring to employees in their obligations and responsibilities under relevant legislation and Metro policies.

The role will include a requirement to work night shift on a scheduled 6 week roster.

Requirements:

Proven experience in high risk work environments in a similar role is essential.

Ideally you will have proven knowledge and experience of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations. 

It is also desirable to have knowledge of the Rail Safety Act and associated Regulations. 

In addition to this ideally you will have:

  • A Bachelor Degree or higher in Workplace Health and Safety or related field

  • Experience in Rail Operations, Utilities, Construction or other high risk environments

  • Demonstrated experience of implementing safety management systems and continual improvement

  • Experience in coaching and mentoring line management and workforce employees

  • Knowledge of Personnel Policy and Practices and the Code of Behaviour


Extensive knowledge of a trade would be advantageous in order to effectively partner with the Infrastructure Delivery team and understand the risks involved in the work in which they do.
