Do you have extensive engineering experience in large scale operations and want to contribute to Australia’s Defence and security?

Land Systems Division in the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group is a key enabler for the Australian Defence Force through the acquisition and through-life support of military equipment and capability.

With a combined Australian Public Service and military workforce of around 1,000 people, Land Systems Division manages the delivery of more than 30 complex projects and over 30 sustainment products, with an annual budget in excess of $1 billion.

We are looking for a person who is:

  • an engineering professional with experience inside large and complex organisations;
  • capable of leading Australian Public Service, Australian Defence Force and industry personnel;
  • capable of leading significant and challenging reforms; and
  • an exceptional communicator and manager.

As the Assistant Secretary Land Engineering, reporting to the Head of Land Systems, you will be responsible for leading the Branch that delivers engineering services that support capability acquisition and sustainment activities in a multi-disciplined, complex and changing environment. 

To be a strong contender, you will be a flexible and collaborative leader who is prepared to take calculated risks. You will be resilient, have proven high level communication skills and be personally accountable for the quality of advice and the delivery of results. To perform effectively in this position you need to demonstrate extensive experience in the provision of engineering services at a very high level of expertise and the highest level of engineering leadership.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term.  To be eligible, an applicant must be, or intend to become, an Australian citizen.  Applicants must hold a four year engineering degree along with Chartered Professional Engineer status conferred by Engineers Australia or the ability to obtain the Chartered Professional Engineer status within a reasonable period. This is a security-designated position located in Melbourne. Interstate travel should be expected.
