The Department of Defence’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group manages the acquisition and sustainment of military equipment and services. Spending more than $13 billion, in 2018-19, across a variety of Australian Defence Force programs in locations across Australia and overseas. This unique and exciting role offers an opportunity to provide commercial support to a wide range of leading edge capability programs for Defence.

The Assistant Secretary Non-Materiel Procurement is responsible for the implementation and delivery of a non-materiel procurement shared services model under the Department’s shared services reform program, including high level procurement and contracting support and commercial advice to Defence i.e. consolidate, leverage and strategically source requirements to maximise both short term and long term sustainable financial and performance benefits.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate within the Defence Senior Executive Service Band 1 salary range.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for ongoing appointment, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. This position is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a security assessment to the appropriate level.
