The Role

The APS5 Maintenance Systems Officer will work in a close knit team within the Hydrographic Systems Program Office (HSPO) in Cairns providing support to the Australian Armys various marine fleets. The Maintenance Systems Officer is expected to provide maintenance policy advice in addition to contributing to technical solutions to identified problems as required. The Maintenance Systems Officer uses Military Integrated Logistics Information System (MILIS) on a daily basis in the performance of their duties and can also be expected to utilise the Configuration Management Tool - Land on a regular basis.

There may be the requirement of some travel for work and training purposes.

The role of the APS5 Maintenance Systems Officer is in an office environment and may require lifting of up to 15kg for file storage tasks and may involve bending, squatting and reaching. Tasks include, however are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the delivery of preventative and corrective maintenance to allocated materiel logistics platforms and systems in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements
  • Monitor, analyse, develop, implement and maintain materiel logistics plans, processes and procedures related to the maintenance support system for allocated systems
  • Provide advice and support to the materiel logistics team to maintain the effectiveness and efficiency of the maintenance support system for allocated systems
  • Undertake research and technical analysis, conduct reviews and perform procedural, administrative and operational support work to achieve results
  • Draft responses to moderately complex to complex correspondence, briefs and reports for higher delegate consideration
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with team members and actively participate in team work and group activities
  • Work collaboratively, operate as an effective team member and provide constructive feedback
  • Investigate and resolve problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of actions
  • Interpret and comply with legislative, policy, regulatory frameworks and organisational objectives

We are looking for a candidate with demonstrated understanding of and experience in maintenance and configuration management of fleet equipment with advanced skills using a Computerised Maintenance Management System preferably MILIS Maintenance Module.

They will be accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

They will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement and liaison with stakeholders in relation to complex issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes.

They will be organised with attention to detail and effective communications skills and can manage workflow and resources whilst working in a dynamic and busy environment. They will work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work.

They will be accountable to work within a team, communicate effectively (manage up and manage down) while managing workflow and resources. They will be able to contribute to team capacity through coaching and feedback and will exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.
