The Role
As a member of the Estate Engineering Policy Team you will have principal responsibility for reviewing, updating and providing advice on policy associated with the electrical services and infrastructure for the Defence Estate across Australia. Of the multitude of Bases and facilities across Australia, Defence has 50+ Bases where it owns and operates its own power generation and electrical distribution networks.

With your electrical background and experience you will also be a key person called upon to provide advice and assistance on matters that may arise associated with electrical safety, the operation and maintenance of the electrical services and infrastructure, the implementation and integration of renewable power systems, as to how the electricity supply to and within a Base may need to be developed and on the implication and application of State and Territory electrical legislation and regulations.

About our Team
The Directorate is directly responsible for and manages the policies for Estate Governance and Integrity, Building Works, Fire Safety engineering, Airfield pavements inspection and maintenance, Aeronautical Ground Lighting, electrical services and infrastructure, HVAC, safety showers and eyes washes and live firing ranges design and compliance. . The team comprises, mechanical, civil, fire, electrical, and systems engineers, fire safety officer as well as a dedicated team of specialist looking at the design and compliance of live firing training ranges.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a confident individual able to work both independently and in a team.  You should have well demonstrated;

  • Written and verbal presentation skills,
  • Ability to professionally liaise and interact with all levels of personnel from the shop floor through to senior management and senior executives,
  • Ability to professional liaise with and as required represent Defence at external organisations and agencies and
  • Ability to review and develop engineering policy and to provide advice as to its application and interpretation.
