As part of our development planning team you will facilitate the implementation of road, drainage and ancillary works (inclusive of traffic engineering) as part of the Subdivision Construction process, and ensure that developments are in accordance with Council requirements and standards.

The role:

This permanent, full-time position involves:

  1. Providing traffic engineering advice for the issuing of subdivision, development and land rezoning approvals, and providing transport planning recommendations for precinct structure plans.
  2. Representing Council and providing technical advice to traffic management related committees/groups such as VicRoads Public Transport Victoria, DELWP, Bellarine Bayside, Barwon Coast.
  3. Analysing and evaluating submitted engineering documentation including drawings and specifications relating to all private subdivisional development to confirm compliance with relevant Council standards.
  4. Analysing and evaluating submitted drainage computations to ensure compliance with Council requirements.
  5. Overseeing construction of Traffic Engineering activity relating to approved subdivision and development works, including the approval of Traffic Management Plans
  6. Liaising with developers, consultants, contractors and statutory authorities and providing authoritative advice on Council standards and requirements.
  7. Liaising and directing activities of Council subdivision inspection personnel, including the provision of specialised traffic engineering advice for the approval of vehicle crossings.

Who we’re looking for …

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  1. A tertiary Degree in Civil engineering recognised by the Institute of Engineers Australia.
  2. Extensive specialist traffic engineering skills including knowledge of relevant legislation and recognised professional standards and substantial experience in applying that expert knowledge, having regard to the risks and implications of each specific situation.
  3. Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical traffic engineering principles in examining engineering documentation for subdivisional plans.
  4. Ability to liaise and communicate effectively with professional engineers and people of similar disciplines in the administration of defined activities.
  5. Exceptional interpersonal skills including ability to translate technical information into plain English.
  6. Ability to support and mentor junior engineering staff.
  7. Significant experience in problem solving and thinking laterally to come up with innovative solutions to difficult problems.
  8. Ability to set priorities and plan/organise work allocated.
